My Name is Summer

MY WORST MOMENT

I was 19 years old. I worked in a molecular biology laboratory for the summer. One of the lab techs was my supervisor. He was from India and in his early thirties. When I would answer the phone he would call me “baby”. When I assisted him in his mice sacrifices, he would tell me that there is enough drugs in his case to knock me out and no one would know. I reported his behavior to the lab PI (who was a woman). She told me that men say those things all the time in India and not to worry about it.

THIS HAS COST ME

I quit after a couple of weeks. It frightened me that he could have knocked me out or done worse.

IS THERE A BRIGHT SIDE?

I continued on with science. I earned a PhD and now have a full term position as a scientist.
